Every
trip might offer a lot of opportunities that often we are not able to exploit only
because we don't get to know them: how many things we don't do only because we don't
know we might do them?
Anyone
who tried to employ the Internet to organise his travel by himself has surely lost
hours navigating among lots of advertisement of restaurants and hotels, tour operators
and travel agencies, and so on, before he could find a pair of interesting sites.
And
yet the Internet may be an extraordinary tool for travellers: thousands of people
sharing these interests navigate the web every day and know that by meeting they
could realise projects impossible to manage if alone!
Vagabondo
is borne with the aim of collecting together, and so making them available, all these
resources, and to connect people, also coming from different cultures, sharing the
same passion for travel.
But
this is not our only purpose: we
are convinced that tourism should enhance typical local characteristics, cultural
as historical as natural, against the "global standard" of touristic villages
and great hotel chains, which are the same all over the world and tend to destroy
these very local characters.
Our
Main Idea is then a web connecting the whole world, but to enhance the infinite variety
of places, nature and culture.
We
think the strength of Vagabondo consists in its contents and in the dialogue between
who wrights the site and its visitors; a dialogue free from any commercial bond.
But a site must also be nice to see, so we amused ourselves in inventing the graphics
that will accompany you in these page.
Since
January 2005 Vagabondo uses the mighty Xaraya engine for dynamic managing of contents.
Our choice to employ a CMS (Content Management System) was by now essential, because
of the mass of materials to negotiate, but we absolutely didn't want Vagabondo to
take the typical huge portal look of all CMS: this involved an immense and difficult
travel to personalise the architecture of the system, but today we can be really
proud of it!
We
thank all our visitors that made this site become the most important Italian Portal
about independent travel. And specially thank all that people that with their ideas
and their work directly contributed, and among these to Federico, who studied Vagabondo
for his degree thesis and flooded us with interesting ideas.
A
thank also to all the friends who directly and undirectly helped us to realise this
site.
Last
but not least, thanks to all people that reviwed aour site in the press, television
and radio.
